Scholarships for Students

The OSA has been collaborating very closely with its Alma mater in motivating the old students of the College, members of the faculty and philanthropists to contribute liberally for the benefit of the needy and deserving students. In response to this combined initiative of the College and the OSA, many prizes/scholarships/awards, which are conferred annually upon the needy and meritorious students, have been instituted.
  • Prof. Bahadur Singh Memorial Silver Medal:- This medal is awarded to the student who has done B.Sc. and secures the highest marks in the subject of Physics in the aggregate of marks obtained in the subject in B.Sc. Part-I, II and III in the university exams. (He/she must have obtained a minimum of 60% marks).
  • Prof. Hardayal Singh Gill Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Sh. Harmol Singh Gill, an alumnus of the College, in the memory of his revered father, who was a Teacher at this College, the Medal is awarded to the student who secures the highest marks in English (Communication Skills) in B.A. Part II and III in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Manjit Kaur and Er. Gurnam Singh Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Dr. I.P.S. Thind (former Head, Dept of Botany), Col. B.P. Singh and S. Sukhwinder Singh in the memory of their revered parents, the medal is awarded to the student, who stands first in the subject of Botany in B.Sc. Part-III in the College in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Balbir Kaur Bhullar Memorial Medal and Puraskar:- Instituted by Sh. Jaipal Singh (F/o Prof. Ranjit Singh Bhullar of Botany Department of the College) in the memory of his wife Late Smt. Balbir Kaur Bhullar, the Medal and a Puraskar of Rs. 500/- are awarded to the student who stands first in the subject of Botany in B.Sc. Part-I (Medical) in the University Examinations.
  • Nishant Memorial Medal and Award (Rs 1500/ per annum):- Instituted by Sh. Anil Goyal, Manager, S.B.O.P. and his wife Prof. Veena Goyal (Head, Department of Botany at the College) in the memory of their beloved son Nishant, the Medal and award are awarded to the student who stands first in B.Sc. Part-I (Medical and Non-Medical) in the College in the University Exams.
  • Sh. R.P. Kad Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Late Sh. Ram Lall Kad, former President of the OSA, in the memory of his revered father, the Medal is given to the Best Student Social Worker of the College.
  • Sahir Sunami Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Sh J. Roy Mangla, President, OSA, in the memory of his revered father, the Medal is given to the student who stands first in the M. A. Part II (English) in the University Examinations.
  • Shri. Dharam Singh Kaler Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Sh. Karnail Singh Kaler in the memory of his revered father, the Medal is given to the student who secures the highest marks in the subject of Psychology in aggregate in B.A. Part-I, II, &  III in the college in the University Examinations.
  • Baba Sarwan Singh Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Prof. Hardev Singh, an alumnus and former College Teacher, in the memory of his revered Father-in-Law, the Medal is given to the student who stands first in B. Sc II (Med.) in the University Exams.
  • S. Karam Singh Memorial Medal:-  Instituted by Sradarni Prem Kaur in the memory of her revered  husband, the medal is given to the student who stands first in M. A. Punjabi,  Part II in the University Exams.
  • Padam Shri Dr. N.D. Aggarwal Medal:-   Instituted by Late Dr N. D. Aggarwal, who was an alumnus of the College and a renowned Orthopaedician of the region, the medal is awarded to the student who stands first in the College in B. Sc. Part-II (Medical) in the Final Exams.
  • Captain Karaminder Singh Kang Memorial Cup:- This cup is given to the Best Sportsperson of the College.
  • Shri Ram Pratap Garg Memorial Medal:- Instituted by Smt. Kaushal Garg in the  memory of her revered husband, Late Sh Ram Partap Garg, a distinguished alumus and former Member of Lok Sabha, the Medal is given to the student who gets highest marks in aggregate in the subject of Political Science on the basis of B.A. I, II and III Exams.
  • Shri Ram Pratap Pandov Memorial Prize:- This Prize of Rs/- 500 is given to the student who stands first in B.Sc. III (Medical) in the final exams.

Medals & Scholarships instituted by Principal (Retd) B.K.Kapur, an alumnus and an old Teacher of the College, in the memory of his revered parents, son and wife.

  • Sh Ram Kishan Kapur Memorial Medal and Scholarship: Institutedby Prof B. K. Kapur in the memory of his revered father, this Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2400/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in   M.A. Part-11, Political Science in the University Examinations.
  • Smt Hira Devi Memorial Medal & Scholarship: Instituted by Prof B. K. Kapur in the memory of his revered mother, this Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2400/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Public Administration in B.A. 111 in the College on the basis of aggregate of marks obtained in the subject in B.A. Part-1, 11 & 111 in the University Examinations.
  • Sh. Balraj Krishan Kapur Memorial Medal & Scholarship: Instituted by Prof B. K. Kapur in the memory of his son, this Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2400/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in M.A. Part-11, Economics in the University Examinations.
  • Smt Nirmal Kapur Memorial Medals/Mementos/ Scholarships/Awards : Instituted by ProfB. K. Kapur in the memory of his wife, Smt Nirmal Kapur, these Medals/Scholarships/Awards/Mementos, fifteen in number, are awarded to the following category of students:
  • A Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Political Science in B.A. Part-1 in the College in the University Examinations.
  • A Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Political Science in B.A. Part-11 in the College on the basis of aggregate of marks obtained in the subject in B. A.- Part-I & II in the University Examinations.
  • A Medal & a Scholarship of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to  the student who secures first position in the subject of Political Science in B.A. Part-111 in the College on the basis of aggregate of marks obtained in the subject in B.A. Part-I, II, & III in the University examinations.
  • A Medal and a Scholarship of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in the College in M.A. Part -1 Political Science in the University Examination.
  • A Medal and a Scholarship of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the student who secures first position in the College in M.A. Part -1 Economics in the University Examinations.
  • A Memento and an Award of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the best speaker of the College from among the girls.
  • A Memento and an Award of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the best speaker of the College from among the boys.
  • A Memento and an Award of Rs 2500/ per annum are awarded to the best singer of the College from among the girls.
  • A Memento and an Award of Rs 2500/ per annum is awarded to the best singer of the College from among the boys.
  • A Medal and a Scholarship of Rs 2500/  per anum are awarded to one girl student each of Part-1 & Part 11 of B.A.,/ B.Sc. (Medical) & B.Sc. (Non-Medical), who has secured at least 55 per cent marks in the annual examination of the lower class and is needy.
  • Smt Nirmal Kapur Memorial Sports Awards/Stipends:- Instituted by ProfB. K. Kapur in the memory of his wife, 9 Sports Awards/Stipends of Rs.1000/ each are awarded to deserving sports persons of the college on the bases of their performance in University/College level participation.

Scholarships Instituted by Sh. Hari Krishan Ahluwalia, Former College Librarian and now an NRI, in the memory of revered members of his family:

  • Shri Ramji Dass Ahluwalia Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia in the memory of his revered father, a Scholarship of Rs. 2400/ per annum is awarded to a student of B. A. Part-I who is the ward of a Policeman (up to the rank of Head Constable).
  • Shrimati Rukmani Devi Ahluwalia Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia in the memory of his revered mother, a Scholarship of Rs. 2400/ per annum is awarded to a student of B. A. Part-I who is the ward of a Policeman (up to the rank of Head Constable).
  • Shrimati Savita Devi Ahluwalia Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia in the  memory of his wife, a  Scholarship of Rs. 2400/ per annum is awarded to a student of B. A. Part-I who is the ward of a Policeman (up to the rank of Head Constable).
  • Shri Sachida Nand Shashtri Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia in the memory of his revered Guru, 2 Scholarships of Rs. 2400/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one boy and one girl) who secure first position in Sanskrit in B. A. Part-II in the University Examinations.
  • Sant Ganda Singh Ahluwalia Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia in the memory of his revered maternal Grandfather, 2 Scholarships of Rs. 2400/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one boy and one girl) who secure first position in Punjabi Literature in B. A. Part-I in the University Examinations.
  • Dr. Harbans lal Ahluwalia Memorial Scolarship: Instituted by Sh Hari krishan Ahluwalia in the memory of his younger brother, 2 Scholarships of Rs. 2400/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one boy and one girl) who secure first position in Hindi Literature in B. A. Part-I in the University Examinations.
  • Sh Hari Krishan Ahluwalia Scholarship: This scholarship of Rs. 2400/ per annum is awarded to the student who is brilliant in studies and needy.

Scholarships Instituted by Smt. Krishna Gupta, sister of Sh. Hari Krishan Ahluwalia:

  • Sh Lachhman Dass Gupta Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Smt Krishna Gupta in the memory of her husband, 2 Scholarships of Rs. 3000/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one girl and one boy) who secure first position in M.A. Punjabi (Part-I) in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Krishna Gupta Scholarship: Institutedby Smt. Krishna Gupta,  2 Scholarships of Rs. 3000/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one girl and one boy) who secure first position in M.A. Hindi (Part-I) in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Krishna Gupta Scholarship: Instituted by Smt. Krishna Gupta, a  Scholarship of Rs. 3000/ per annum is awarded to the student who secures first position in Sanskrit in B. A. Part-I in the University Examinations.
  • Shri M. B. Uppal memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Prof Raksha Verma, former, Head, Geography Dept., in the memory of his revered father late Sh. M. B. Uppal, a Scholarship of Rs. 1100/ per annum is awarded to the student, who secures first position in the College on the bases of aggregate of marks obtained in the subject in B.A. Part-I, II and III in the University examinations.
  • Prof. Harpreet Kaur Merit Scholarship: This Scholarship of Rs. 5000/ per annum has been Instituted y Prof. Harpreet Kaur, Nirvair Singh Charitable Trust (Regd.) and is awarded to the student of History on the basis of merit. Prof. Harpreet Kaur is former Head of History Dept. of the College.
  • Smt. Surjit Kaur Memorial Scholarship: Instituted by Prof. R. K. Bangar, Former Head, Physical Education Dept., in the memory of his wife, 2 Scholarships of Rs. 1100/ per annum each are awarded to the Best Athletes (one girl and one boy) of the College.
  • Smt. Kartar Kaur Sodhi Memorial scholarships: Dr. Amarjit Singh Marwah, an NRI, has Instituted Scholarships amounting to Rs. One lac per annum  in the memory of his revered Mother-in-Law, Late Smt. Kartar Kaur Sodhi, a Former Teacher of Physical Education in the College. These Scholarships are awarded to the students for their achievements in Academics, Sports and Cultural activities.

Prof. Gursewak Singh Memorial Scholarship, Award and Medal:

Dr Manmohan Singh, an alumnus of the College and a renowned Cardiologist, on behalf of “S. Deva Singh Narain Trust” Instituted by members of his family, has instituted 2 Scholarships and Medals in the revered memory of his father, late Prof. Gursewak Singh, an alumnus, former Teacher and Former Principal of the College.
  • Prof. Gursewak Singh Memorial Scholarship and Medal: A Scholarship of Rs. 2100/ per annum and a Medal are awarded to the student, who secures first position in M.A. English, Part-I on the basis of aggregate of marks in Semester-I & II in the University Examinations.
  • Prof. Gursewak Singh Memorial Award and Medal: An Award of Rs. 2100/ per annum and a Medal are awarded to the student, who secures first position in M.A. English, Part-II on the basis of aggregate of marks in M.A. Part-I & II in the University Examinations.
  • S. Kulwant Singh Virk Memorial Award and Medal: Instituted by Dr. Sudeep Bhangoo, former College Principal, in the memeory of her revered father, 4 Awards of Rs. 2100/- per annum each and Medals are awarded to the students who secure first position in B.A. Part-I, II, III and M. A. Punjabi, Part-II respectively in the University Examinations.

Dr. Joginder Kaushal Memorial Scholarships:

Ms. Shikha Kaushal Mehra and Manisha Nagar daughters of Late Dr. Joginder Kaushal, an alumnus of the College and a Former Professor of English, Punjabi University, Patiala, have Instituted following 5 Scholarships in the revered memory of their father:
  • Two Scholarships of Rs. 2500/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one girl and one boy) who secure first position in the subject of English on the basis of aggregate of marks in the subject in B.A. Part-I, II, and III in the University Examinations. 
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 2000/ per annum is awarded to the student who secures first position in B. A. Hons. School  in English, on the basis of aggregate of marks in all the six semesters of Part-I, II, and III in the University Examinations.
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 2000/ per annum is awarded to the student who secures first position in the Paper of Literary Criticism of M.A. English in the University Examinations.
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 2000/ per annum is awarded to the student who is adjudged as the Best Speaker (any language) of the College.

Sh. Ranjit Kumar Batta, Justice (Retired), Mumbai High Court and Member, National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, has instituted the following two Scholarships in the memory of his revered father, Shree Pritam Chand Batta, a former student of the College,  and revered mother Smt. Satyawati Batta.

  • Shree Pritam Chand Batta Memorial Scholarship and Medal: A Scholarship of Rs. 4500/ per annum and a Medal are awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Economics on the basis of aggregate of marks in B.A. Part-I, II and III in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Satyawati Batta Memorial Scholarship and Medal: A Scholarship of Rs. 4500/ per annum and a Medal are awarded to the student who secures first position in B. S. Hons. School in Economics on the basis of aggregate of marks in all the six semesters of Part-I, II and III in the University Examinations.
  • Prof. Satya Dewan Mmeorial Scholarship: Dr. Ashok Juneja has Instituted 2 Scholarships of Rs. 2100/ per annum each in the revered memory of his wife Late Prof. Stya Dewan, Former Head, Dept. of Hindi. These Scholarships are awarded to the students who secure first position in the subject of Hindi in B.A.III and M.A. Hindi, Part-II respectively.

Sh. Ram Lok Sharma Scholarships and Medal:

Dr. Suresh Sharma, Head, Dept. of Public administration, has Instituted three Scholarships in the memory of his revered father, Late Sh. Ram Lok Sharma.
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 2000/ per annum and a Medal is awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Public administration in B.A. Part-III in the University Examinations.
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 1000/ per annum is awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Public administration in B.A. Part-I in the University Examinations.
  • A Scholarship of Rs. 1000/ per annum is awarded to the student who secures first position in the subject of Public administration in B.A. Part-II in the University Examinations.
  • S. Ishwar Dhillon Memorial Scholarship: Dr. Jaspreet Kaur Dhillon, Head, Dept. of Fine Arts, has Instituted 4 Scholarships of Rs. 2500/ each per annum in the memory of his revered father Late S. Ishwar Singh Dhillion to be awarded to the students of Fine Arts of B.A. Part-III on the basis of their achievements in the fields of Academics, Cultural and Social Service.
  • Prof. I. N. Chawla Memorial Medal and Award: Er. Ravi Chawla, an alumnus of the College, has instituted an Award of Rs. 5100/ per annum and a Medal in the memory of his revered father late Prof. I. N. Chawla, Former Head, Dept. of Geography, to be awarded to the student who secures first position in M. Sc. Geography in the University Examinations.
  • Smt. Manjit Kaur Sekhon Memorial Medal and Award: Sh. S. S. Sekhon, Former Chief Librarian, has instituted the following 5 Scholarships in the revered memory of his wife Late Smt. Manjit Kaur Sekhon.
  • Four Scholarships of Rs 3500/ each per annum are awarded to the students who secure highest marks in the subjects of English (Communication Skills), English (Literature) of B. A. and in B. Sc. (Medical) and M.A. English respectively.
  • A Scholarship of Rs 4000/ per annum and a Medal is awarded to the student on the basis of achievements in academics and co-curricular activities.
  • Sh. J. R. Mangla Scholarship: Sh. J. Roy Mangla, President, OSA of the College, has instituted two Scholarships of Rs. 3500/ per annum each are awarded to the students (one girl and one boy) who secure highest marks in B. Com. (Professional), Part-III in the University Examinations.
